Anhinga Trail Temporary Closure

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 2, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

Homestead, FL: The Anhinga Trail will be closed to visitors starting Wednesday, September 7, 2016 and is expected to reopen in early October, 2016.

In early April, 2016, Everglades National Park began an exciting project to completely rebuild the very popular Anhinga Trail, from the base structure up. An effort has been made to keep as much of the trail open and accessible to the public as possible during this important project. Work on the boardwalk is now nearing completion, allowing our contractors to turn their attention to the paved portion of the trail. To safely undertake repaving of this section, closure of the entire length of the Anhinga Trail will now be required for a few weeks.

Note: The Royal Palm area will remain open during the temporary Anhinga Trail closure. Visitors can still hike the Gumbo Limbo Trail and access the area immediately behind the bookstore to view the pond. Restrooms and vending machines are also available.

Updates regarding the work on Anhinga Trail will be provided on the park's websites and social media channels. Everglades National Park - www.nps.gov/ever - click on Alerts This and other park news releases are available at www.nps.gov/ever/parknews/newsreleases.htm
