Vandalism to Historic 1907 Keeper’s Quarters

HARKERS ISLAND, NC -On the morning of Aug. 29, 2016, Cape Lookout National Seashore personnel received a report from park volunteers that the historic 1907 Keeper's Quarters had been vandalized. This home sits along the waters of Cape Lookout Bight and is considered part of the historic district and was original to the Light Station. The damage occurred between the dates of Aug. 27, 2016 and Aug. 28, 2016.

The damage to the historic home includes nine separate windows having the glass panes broken out and window frames pulled apart, construction items and window frames being thrown out of the broken second floor windows, and an entire section of the porch railing with spindles being torn apart.

The National Park Service is investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. Anyone with information that may help to determine the events that led to this vandalism is asked to contact Chief Ranger Jill Jaworski at (252) 728-2250 ext. 3034.
