Natchez Trace Parkway News Release - Motor Vehicle Accident with Fatality October 25

CHICKASAW COUNTY, MS - On Oct. 25, 2016, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Natchez Trace Parkway Communications Center received notification of a single motor vehicle accident near milepost 226.4 at the Highway 389 interchange, near Houston, MS. U.S. Park Rangers and Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene.

The vehicle, a 2012 Toyota Camry, was operated by Lori M. Herring, age 52, of Saltillo, MS. Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling southbound when it crossed the center line striking the Highway 389 Bridge. The vehicle then went down the embankment, ending up on the Highway 389 access ramp. Herring, the only occupant of the vehicle, was pulled from the vehicle by a Chickasaw County Deputy as the vehicle caught fire. She was declared deceased at the scene by the Chickasaw County Coroner.
