Point Reyes National Seashore Acting Superintendent Steve Mietz stated that, beginning today and going through Monday evening, September 4, an extreme fire danger alert within the Seashore is in effect. The alert is in effect due to potential high fire danger from extremely high temperatures, humidity in the single digits, and offshore winds.
Most activities prohibited during periods of extreme fire hazard include:
1. no wood or charcoal fires will be allowed on beaches or in picnic areas;
2. all previously issued fire permits become null and void;
3. smoking will be prohibited on park trails; and
4. Mount Vision Road will be closed to all vehicle traffic.
