Gettysburg, PA: The National Park Service is inviting volunteers to celebrate National Public Lands Day on September 30 by volunteering to cut and remove brush on Powers Hill at Gettysburg National Military Park. The project will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. and registration is required.
The park will provide hand tools and gloves. Volunteers should bring water, sunscreen, and bug spray, and wear long pants, and work shoes or boots. The brush cutting project will help maintain the open landscape at Power’s Hill, a key position during the Battle of Gettysburg.
This project is limited to 40 volunteers. To register, send your name and cell phone number (and the information for each volunteer in your party) to Alyce Evans. Please register by September 22.
Parking is available in a gravel parking lot along Granite School House Lane, on the south side of the road, just west of Baltimore Pike.
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands.
