Buffalo National River Completes Historic Preservation Project on Erbie Church

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Oct. 23, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

Buffalo National River, Harrison, AR - At the heart of the Erbie Historic District of Buffalo National River is the Erbie Community Church, erected circa 1900. This rural church is located approximately 7 miles west of Scenic Highway 7 on Newton County Road 2500, just north of the Buffalo River ford.

Many years of water and termite exposure have caused extensive structural and siding damage to the church. The National Park Service funded and recently completed a historic preservation project to repair the historic church and preserve it for the enjoyment of current and future generations of park visitors. The Erbie Church is one of several buildings open year-round for self-guided tours in the historic district.
