Summer 2018 Youth Employment at Point Reyes National Seashore

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Feb. 1, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Superintendent Cicely Muldoon announced today that Point Reyes National Seashore is seeking applications for this summer's Youth Conservation Corps Program (YCC).

Youth aged 15 to 18 are encouraged to apply. Those selected must be at least 15 years of age by June 18, 2018, but cannot turn 19 before Aug. 10, 2018. They must also be citizens of the United States, its territories or possessions, and eligible for employment. Twelve positions are anticipated for this summer's program.

Work projects will include removing downed trees, trail maintenance, and grounds maintenance. Work locations will vary from the historic Pierce Point Ranch to the heart of the Seashore's backcountry.

Work will be performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to poison oak. Applicants must be physically fit, capable of hiking long distances, and have the ability to work with hand tools. Medical history forms and work permits are required prior to employment.

The program will commence on Monday, June 18, 2018, and will terminate on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018. Work hours will be from 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The pay will be $11 per hour. Employees will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the Seashore Headquarters area. No government housing will be available.

Applications must be postmarked on or before Friday, April 13, 2018, and selection and notification will be made by April 20, 2018. Due to the short eight-week program, we require all enrollees be available and work the entire program. Vacations should be planned before or after the program dates.
