Tucson, AZ---Saguaro National Park is seeking 6 to 11 year old day campers to participate in the long-standing tradition of Junior Ranger Camps in the Rincon Mountain District (east) this summer.
The camps, offer a variety of fun and exciting opportunities to learn about our national parks and the plants and animals of the Sonoran Desert. Jr. Rangers will participate in early morning hikes, games and crafts, presented by National Park Service rangers and volunteers.
“Animals, plants and humans all share this desert and we each have adapted to the environment in our own way," according to camp coordinator, Jeff Wallner. “We are recruiting the next generation of young ‘rangers’ to come learn, explore and protect what makes the Sonoran Desert and the Tucson landscape so unique."
Each camp meets for three days, Monday through Wednesday, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 12:30 p.m. A fee of $30 will be charged per child, per camp, scholarships may be available. The two camps for first-time campers are scheduled for June 4 through 6 and June 11 through 13. A graduate camp for last year’s attendees is scheduled June 18 through 20.
“We are honored and excited to offer children the opportunity to join the National Park Service "team" as Junior Rangers, said Superintendent Leah McGinnis.
Space is limited and advance registration is required. Applications will be accepted from February 15th thru May 6th. A lottery drawing to determine registrants will be held Sunday, May 6th, with results available later that afternoon.
