DDOT Partners with National Park Service to Improve Piney Branch Parkway

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 24, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON- The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) in collaboration with the National Park Service will begin resurfacing the Piney Branch Parkway on Tuesday, May 29

Work will occur during the day and require the road’s closure from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting. The closures will occur on weekdays from May 29 until June 8. 17th Street NW will remain open to local traffic exiting Mount Pleasant.

During that time, work crews will mill and overlay (resurface) the road. This work will provide temporary relief to drivers in anticipation of a full depth reconstruction that was already scheduled in the National Park Service’s five-year plan.

This work complements the ongoing rehabilitation of Beach Drive. That road is currently closed for construction between Broad Branch Road NW and Joyce Road NW. The National Park Service now anticipates finishing work on that part of the road ahead of schedule in summer 2018. We will begin work on the final segment of Beach Drive between Joyce Road NW and the District of Columbia - Maryland border as soon as we complete the work underway now.
