Cape Cod National Seashore Partners with Mashpee and Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribes for Wampanoag Spring Cultural Festival on June 16

WELLFLEET, Mass-Stop by Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham on June 16 for a family-friendly celebration of Wampanoag culture and traditions. Meet artists from the Aquinnah and Mashpee Wampanoag communities for demonstrations of refined traditional skills, including cooking, pottery, scrimshaw, corn husk doll making, wampum belt weaving, and traditional games. Skills demonstrations will take place indoors and outdoors from 10 am to 12:30 pm.

At 1:30 pm, the Kingfisher Dance Troupe will take the outdoor stage for an interactive performance of Eastern Woodlands social dances. This Aquinnah and Mashpee Wampanoag group has impressed and educated numerous school groups and community organizations during performances across New England.

All activities are free, open to the public, and wheelchair accessible. The event is supported by Eastern National, the national seashore’s education partner, operating stores at seashore visitor centers and the Keeper’s Shop and tours at Highland Light.
