Celebrate 60 Years of Ferry Service: Either Submit your Favorite Ranger III Photo or Join Family Day Aboard the Ranger III, Thursday, August 16

HOUGHTON, MICH. - The Ranger III ferry, connecting Houghton, MI to Isle Royale National Park, has been in service for 60 years! Celebrate this milestone by participating in two different events.

The park will share its favorite submissions via social media and create a website photo gallery to honor the selections. Captain Rand Attaway will also select his favorite submitted photo, which will receive 4 free tickets to a summer 2019 Keweenaw Waterway Cruise, generously donated by the Isle Royale and Keweenaw Parks Association.

Ranger III Family Day

On Aug. 16, 2018 join Isle Royale National Park and the Portage Lake District Library for Ranger III Family Day. Families may participate in any or all of the following scheduled events:

10:30 am: Ranger III Kids Program at the Portage Lake District Library

Join Ranger Derrick Jaeger at the Portage Lake District Library as he explores the Ranger III and its more than 5,000 Lake Superior crossings. No advanced reservations needed. For families and kids ages 5-12. The program will last about 30 minutes.

11:30 am: Ranger III Tour led by Captain Rand Attaway

Captain Rand Attaway will provide a 30 minute tour of the Ranger III. Wear comfortable shoes. Meet in front of the Houghton Visitor Center by 11:20 am.

12:30 pm: Ranger III Cruise onto Portage Lake, Reservations Required

For families with kids 15 or younger, take a free cruise aboard the Ranger III onto Portage Lake. To make the required reservations, call the Portage Lake District Library at (906) 482-4570. Reservations will only be accepted through August 15. On Thursday Aug. 16, check in at the Houghton Visitor Center by 12:00 pm for ticket pick-up. Light jackets are recommended.

Isle Royale National Park thanks the Portage Lake District Library and the Isle Royale and Keweenaw Parks Association for supporting these Ranger III events commemorating 60 years of service.
