Knoxville Area Resident Dies Hiking in Big South Fork NRRA

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 10, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Park rangers arrived and provided CPR without success. Maryville, Tennessee-area resident Monte McDonough, was as pronounced dead at the scene. His body was recovered and transported to Pickett County Coroner with the assistance of personnel from Fentress County Rescue Squad, Frozen Head State Park, and Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area.
