Today’s search efforts for Ryan Albert in Rocky Mountain National Park are focused on high-probability areas below tree line in the Longs Peak area. Snow accumulation over the past three days left over a foot of snow at the Longs Peak Trailhead with deeper drifts. Despite the snow, the daytime forecast is favorable so there are currently five teams totaling 27 people in the field searching for Ryan or clues that might lead them to his location. Today’s search teams include a dog team with Larimer County Search and Rescue, the Alpine Interagency Hotshot Crew and Rocky Mountain National Park Search and Rescue.
On Friday, October 5, Rocky Mountain National Park rangers were contacted by the Denver Police Department, who had been notified by a family member that Albert, 30, of Marlton, New Jersey was overdue. It was believed he was attempting Longs Peak on Thursday, October 4. Albert’s rental car was found at the Longs Peak trailhead on Friday afternoon.
Albert was last seen leaving the Denver area early Thursday morning, October 4, wearing dark clothes and a backpack. Information received on Saturday indicates that Albert intended on climbing Longs Peak via the Keyhole Route.
