McLean, Va. - The National Park Service (NPS) wants to hear your thoughts on proposals to make Memorial Circle-on the George Washington Memorial Parkway-safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers. Changes are intended to lower transportation risks while protecting Memorial Circle’s historic character. The comment period is open through Dec. 29, 2018.
“Whether park visitors are biking to work, driving home or out for a jog, we want to make the Memorial Circle area safe and accessible to everyone," acting Superintendent Blanca Alvarez Stransky said. “Visitor’s ideas are an important part of how we’ll accomplish our safety goals, and I’m looking forward to listening to what they have to say."
The Environmental Assessment describes how the NPS proposes to change the way drivers move through the circle. It also explains how we may change drivers’ approach from the south, and biker and pedestrian crossings throughout the Memorial Circle area. The proposal is based on extensive observations, traffic studies and previous public comments.
