Muir Woods National Monument Has Power Outage After Severe Weather - Update: Park is Open

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Jan. 17, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Update: The power was restored and the park opened to visitors on Saturday, January 19.

On Jan. 17, Muir Woods National Monument closed due to a power outage caused by a storm event with heavy rain and high winds. This closure continued through Friday, January 18 for debris removal and repairs. The park is unable to operate the site safely until power is restored and clean up efforts are complete. All visitor services will be closed, including the restrooms and parking areas to protect the health and safety of staff and visitors.

“Our priority at this time is safety," said Golden Gate National Recreation Area’s Deputy Superintendent Carey Feierabend. "Once the area is secure, we will evaluate site damages, remove debris, and re-open when power has been restored. We hope to be back in operation tomorrow, depending upon when power is restored."

Your reservation will be automatically refunded if you purchased parking reservations for the duration of the closure.
