Road Closures in Response to National Weather Service Advisory

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Feb. 13, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Acting on the latest National Weather Service Advisory, park officials are preemptively closing Geology Tour Road and Berdoo Canyon Road. The National Weather Service has forecasted a “prolonged period of light to moderate rain across Southeast California beginning today (Wednesday) and lasting into Thursday evening. Highest rainfall amounts of 1-1.5 inches are expected to occur over Joshua Tree National Park."

Road crews are standing by to close other dirt roads should the situation dictate. Rangers remind the public to avoid driving through running water and slowing down for wet and rainy conditions.

In addition to closures due to weather, the park advises the public that the Lost Horse Mine trail will be closed to hikers Tuesday, February 19 through Friday, Feb. 22, from 7 am until 3 pm. The Lost Horse Mine Road off Keys View Road will also be closed during this time. Park staff is conducting a historic preservation project on the Lost Horse Mill structure and surrounding cultural landscape that requires trail closure for public safety. The trail will be open during the holiday weekend.
