Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center Third Thursdays Offer Extended Hours, Exclusive Summer Programs

Third Thursdays will bring longer hours and new programs to the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center this summer, as the Gettysburg National Military Park and Gettysburg Foundation extend opportunities to visit and explore the park.

Beginning May 16 and running through September, the Museum & Visitor Center will extend its normal hours and remain open until 8 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month (May 16, June 20, July 18, Aug. 15 and Sept. 19). In addition to more time to explore the museum and tour the battlefield with a licensed guide, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a line-up of new summer programing on Third Thursdays.

Thursday, May 16

Illuminated-A lights up look at the Gettysburg Cyclorama

Program 6:30-8 p.m.

Limited to 40 people. Adult ticket $20 (also includes access to the film and museum). A close-up, behind-the-scenes history of the 360-degree painting. Experience the sights and sounds of Pickett’s Charge and view the detail of the painting with the gallery lights on.

Museum Alive

Hours 6-7:45 p.m.

Museum Experience Adult ticket $9. Explore the museum at your own pace or join the Gettysburg National Military Park’s interpretive staff for hands-on experiences highlighting the original artifacts in the Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War. Interpretive stops and discussion focus on history with relevance for today.

Thursday, June 20

Illuminated-A lights up look at the Gettysburg Cyclorama

Program 6:30-8 p.m.

Limited to 40 people. Adult ticket $20 (also includes access to the film and museum). A close-up, behind-the-scenes history of the 360-degree painting. Experience the sights and sounds of Pickett’s Charge and view the detail of the painting with the gallery lights on.

Summer Solstice Double-Decker Battlefield Bus Tour

Bus departs the Museum & Visitor Center at 6:30 p.m.

Adult ticket $35. It’s (almost) the longest day of the year. Make the most of it with an evening bus tour of the battlefield.

George Spangler Farm & Field Hospital-“The Rest of the Story"

Program 6-7:30 p.m.

Buses depart the Museum & Visitor Center at 5:20 p.m. and 5:40 p.m.

Limited to 40 people. Adult ticket $10. Access to program via shuttle departing from the Museum & Visitor Center.

Join Licensed Battlefield Guides Richard Schroeder, M.D. and Fran Feyock, CRNA, as they review some of the figures at the Battle of Gettysburg and discuss medical descriptions and claims from the perspective of a 21st century Trauma Surgeon and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

Bus departs the Museum & Visitor Center at 5:30 p.m.

Adult ticket $35. Celebrate the beginning of fall with this special sunset tour of the battlefield.
