The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on June 5, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

SCRANTON, Pa. - Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) will run four railroad passenger excursions during the month of June.

On Saturday, June 8, we’re heading to the picturesque Pocono Mountains’ village of Moscow PA. Visit the restored passenger station and freight depot. Light refreshments and souvenirs will be available at the Moscow Station. Sales support the restoration of the park’s Boston & Maine #3713 steam locomotive. The excursion departs at 11:00 a.m. and returns to the park at about 1:00 p.m. Ticket pricing is $24 for adults, ages 16-61; $22 for seniors, ages 62 and older; and $17 for children ages 6-15. Children to age 5 require a free ticket.

On June 15th we are hosting the Railroading Merit Bagde workshop for Scouts. (don’t delay since prior registration and pre-requisite badge work is required - call coordinator Lori Staely at 570-340-5306 or email her at lori_staely@nps.gov for more information). The scheduled excursion has been cancelled but our regularly scheduled yard shuttles will be available.

On Sunday, June 16, make Dad “King for the Day" by taking him on the “Father’s Day Special" excursion from Steamtown NHS to Moscow PA, in the Poconos. Visit the restored passenger station and freight depot. Light refreshments and souvenirs will be available at the Moscow Station. Sales support the restoration of the park’s Boston & Maine #3713 steam locomotive. The excursion departs at 1:30 p.m. and returns to the park at about 3:30 p.m. Ticket pricing is $24 for adults, ages 16-61; $22 for seniors, ages 62 and older; and $17 for children ages 6-15. Children to age 5 require a free ticket.

We return to Moscow PA on Saturday, June 22, departing Steamtown NHS at 11:00 am, with a return to the park at about 1:00 pm. The passenger depot and freight station recall the heyday of rail travel on the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad; few towns can still boast having both the depot and station still standing. Ticket pricing is $24 for adults, ages 16-61; $22 for seniors, ages 62 and older; and $17 for children ages 6-15. Children to age 5 require a free ticket.

Finally, on Saturday, June 29, transit through the beautiful Pocono Mountains to enjoy all the great activities associated with Founders’ Day in the lovely village of Delaware Water Gap. This all day excursion departs Steamtown NHS at 9:00 am and returns about 6:00 pm. This is a rare opportunity to ride a train through the scenic Pocono Mountains to the edge of eastern Pennsylvania. Ticket pricing is $54 for adults, ages 16-61; $49 for seniors, ages 62 and older; and $32 for children ages 6-15. Children to age 5 require a free ticket. There may also be the chance to ride in style in the former Lehigh Valley business car; seating is limited and requires an upgraded First Class charge.

Tickets may be purchased in advance for any of our rail excursions by calling 570-340-5204 or stopping by the Steamtown NHS Fee Booth Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Please note that the Fee Booth is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
