Summer Campground Closures for 2019

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on June 6, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Every year, summer temperatures rise and the number of campers decrease in the park. In order to reduce maintenance costs and allow vegetation a bit of a breather, Joshua Tree closes a number of camping areas. The following campgrounds close starting on June 10th.

* Cottonwood Campground, (Loop B)

* Belle Campground

* Ryan Campground

* White Tank Campground

* Indian Cove Campground family sites (West Loop) Sites 40-101

* Black Rock Campground, sites (49-60 & 69-99)

The last day to use Recreation.gov for campsite reservations will be June 8. The afternoon of June 9th, all open campgrounds will be first-come, first-served. Group sites will remain on the reservation system with one day in advance reservations accepted. Jumbo Rocks and Hidden Valley campgrounds will be open all summer. Campgrounds will reopen Aug. 30, 2019 and Jumbo Rocks, Indian Cove, and Black Rock campgrounds will be available by reservation only on Recreation.gov.
