Three fatalities in single vehicle accident at Acadia National Park

BAR HARBOR, ME - Three people are deceased following a single-vehicle roll-over accident that occurred around 3 am on Aug. 31, 2019. The accident occurred on the one-way section of the Park Loop Road in Acadia National Park.

At about 3 am today, Bar Harbor Police received an emergency 911 call reporting a single vehicle accident on the Park Loop Road. Responding emergency personnel found four occupants of the vehicle. Three of the occupants were deceased on scene and the fourth was transported to Mount Desert Island Hospital. The Bar Harbor Police Department, Bar Harbor Fire Department, and Hancock County Sheriff Department were on scene to assist with accident reconstruction and investigation.

The one-way section of the Park Loop Road was closed at 3 am until it could be reopened to visitors.

The incident is under investigation by the National Park Service in conjunction with Bar Harbor Police and Hancock County Sheriff. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, and further investigation.
