INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL PARK: Celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other civil rights leaders at Indiana Dunes National Park's Paul H. Douglas Center on Saturday, Jan. 18, between 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

The festivities start out at 1:00 pm, with the film, I Have a Dream. Then, join national park ranger, Steve Rodriquez, for a presentation at 2:00 pm on Dr. King and some of the national park sites across the nation that commemorate the struggle for African-American civil rights. Sites included in the program are Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site (NHS), Chicago Portage Naval Magazine National Memorial, Brown vs. Board of Education NHS, Central High School NHS, and the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail.

At 3:00 pm, there is an opportunity to help in the restoration of native habitats in the Indiana Dunes. Please volunteer your time to separate native grass seeds from the chaff and preparing wild indigo seeds for planting throughout the park this spring. This is an indoor volunteer job at the Dougas Center and no previous experience is required.

The Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education is located in the western portion of the national park at 100 North Lake Street, about one mile north of U.S. Highway 12 in the Miller neighborhood of Gary.
