Mason Lytle is the new AmeriCorps/Stewards Program Intern at Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site. He grew up in Northern Utah mountain biking and enjoying the Wasatch Mountains. Mountain biking fostered a love for the outdoors and a desire to pursue other hobbies in the outdoor arena. Growing up with national parks nearby in all directions, he was always able to find an interest in the environment. Mason was married in August of 2017, and he and his wife Annie welcomed their son, Everett, in 2019. Mason graduated in December of 2019 with a degree in History from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.
While pursuing his degree, Mason was able to present at various conferences on Yellowstone’s first park naturalist and the birth of interpretive services at Yellowstone National Park. He has been an intern at Fort Douglas Military Museum and in the archives at Weber State University. Mason is excited to work at Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site and to work with the AmeriCorps/Stewards Program.
March 10-16 is AmeriCorps Week. The weeklong AmeriCorps celebration also honors the contributions of thousands of local organizations that make AmeriCorps programs possible. In Colorado, there are more than 2,100 AmeriCorps members. AmeriCorps is administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency that engages millions of Americans in service through its AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs and leads the nation’s volunteering and service efforts.
