Tucson, AZ - Saguaro National Park, along with the Federal Highways Administration, is planning a road preservation and resurfacing project in both districts of the park between April 6 and May 18.
Visitors will notice traffic changes associated with the work and should expect delays along all paved roads in and around both districts. The expected disruptions will be posted on the park’s webpage, www.nps.gov/sagu.
Starting Monday, the Cactus Forest Loop Drive in Saguaro National Park East will be closed to all traffic, including bicycle and pedestrian traffic, through April 10 from 5:30 am to 3:30 pm.
The road will be opened at 3:30 until sunset daily for afternoon and evening traffic.
Javelina Picnic Area will also be closed on Monday April 6 through April 7 from 5:30 am to 3:30 pm as crews prepare the area for the road projects and conduct some routine painting and other general maintenance of the area.
The park will update road project schedules for both districts on the park’s website and will post to the park’s social media accounts, as construction dates are confirmed.
As a reminder, both visitor centers and all park restrooms continue to be closed to slow the spread of COVID-19. Trails continue to be open and water is available only at the visitor center patios. If you choose to come to the park to hike, please maintain a social distance of at least 6’ from other hikers, plan ahead, and be prepared to pack out everything that you pack in.
Please help take care of your Saguaro National Park during this difficult time.
