Rangers, Utah County Sheriff’s Deputies, Search and Rescue, and the Lone Peak Fire District paramedics responded to a 911 call of an unconscious man approximately 1.2 miles up the Timpanogos Cave Trail just after 6:05 am on Thursday, July 16. CPR was in progress when rescuers arrived on scene but efforts to revive the patient, 57 year old park volunteer Kevin Bodily, were ultimately unsuccessful.
Since 2016, Bodily served as a member of the park’s volunteer Trail Patrol Program, often hiking the trail multiple times daily, providing for the safety of hundreds of hikers in the early morning hours.
Before participating in the volunteer program, Bodily hiked the trail for enjoyment and fitness for more than ten years and has been recognized by park staff and visitors as an advocate for the park and an example of commitment to fitness in the outdoors.
“Kevin was part of the Timpanogos Cave family. Without pay or fanfare, he dedicated himself to being here almost every morning helping others enjoy the park. Our deepest condolences go out to Kevin’s family and friends" said park superintendent Jim Ireland.
