Culvert Installation for La Poel Creek on Highway 101 at Lake Crescent September 21 through October 31

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 17, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

PORT ANGELES, WA: Starting the week of Sept. 21, Strider Construction will set up traffic control devices and signage in preparation for the installation of a new culvert at La Poel Creek on Highway 101 at Lake Crescent. The culvert installation became necessary to protect the road after a winter storm in January 2020 caused La Poel Creek to occupy a new channel and flow over the highway. The work is scheduled to be completed by October 31.

Drivers should plan for delays for alternating single-lane traffic in the area of milepost 223.5 near the entrance to the La Poel Picnic Area. La Poel Picnic Area must close early this season due to the culvert installation.

Flaggers will control traffic in the work zone during work hours. Traffic signals will be in place outside work hours and on weekends. In addition to the culvert installation, the project involves shoulder conditioning in the work zone as well as repaving and striping over the new culvert.

This project is being managed collaboratively by the Federal Highway Administration and the National Park Service.
