Steamtown National Historic Site and the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority Announce Cancellation of Santa Train 2020

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Nov. 2, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

SCRANTON, Pa. - Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) and the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority (LHVA), in consultation with our community partners, have cancelled the “Christmas in a Small Town" Santa Train.

The much-anticipated Santa Train has been a popular annual event in the Lackawanna Valley for a quarter century. Making stops in Carbondale, Archbald, Jessup, Olyphant, Dickson City, and Scranton, the Santa Train brings holiday cheer to thousands of local children and their families.

After meeting with the community partners on possible changes to the train’s traditional format, the communities as well as Steamtown NHS and LHVA made the difficult decision to cancel the event for 2020. Everyone looks forward to a return of the Santa Train in early December 2021.
