Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will be fee-free on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day. Come and enjoy your park during this special time of year and on this special fee-free day!
Many of the popular attractions at the National Lakeshore remain open during this time of year, including the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center in Empire (open 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily), Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, Dune Climb, and a hundred miles of hiking trails. The campgrounds at Platte River and D. H. Day also remain open for your camping enjoyment. Please note that the fee waiver does not apply to camping fees at the National Lakeshore.
On Oct. 28, 2020, the Secretary of the Interior, David L. Bernhardt, issued an order establishing free access to national parks and other federal lands for Gold Star Families and military veterans. This order goes into effect on Veterans Day and will continue every day going forward. The National Lakeshore is awaiting additional guidance concerning this new pass.
