National Park Service (NPS) Regional Director Gay Vietzke has named Ahna Wilson as superintendent of Women’s Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls, New York. She will also oversee the management of Harriet Tubman National Historical Park in Auburn, New York.
“These buildings, places and events associated with our nation's struggle for freedom, equality and women's rights lie within the Finger Lakes Region of New York," stated Vietzke. “These two nationally recognized parks will benefit from Ahna’s background in managing cultural resources and partnerships as well as her leadership style. She is uniquely positioned to lead staff as these parks continue their preservation and interpretive momentum following this year’s centennial of the 19th Amendment."
“I am excited and honored to serve as the superintendent of each of these treasured parks," said Wilson. “The places and stories interpreted at each of these sites highlight the struggle and perseverance needed in order to effect change in our unique democracy. I look forward to leading an amazing staff and collaborating with a dedicated community and partners to continue to preserve these important places for future generations."
Wilson currently serves as the site manager for Eisenhower National Historic Site (EISE) in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. She joined the NPS in 2009 as a historian for the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park, managing more than 1,300 historic structures, park museum and archive collections, as well as completing project compliance for Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. In 2015, she moved to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to manage EISE and serve as part of the management team at Gettysburg National Military Park. While at EISE, she was able to assist staff in planning for a new visitor experience on site, developing a new exhibit in collaboration with one of the park partners and finalizing the new temporary concession contract for visitor access to the park.
