Golden Gate National Recreation Area Cancels Solicitation for Overnight Hostel Accommodations at Historic Fort Mason

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Dec. 3, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

San Francisco, CA -The National Park Service has cancelled the solicitation for proposals for a concession contract business opportunity offering hostel-style overnight accommodations and other related services. The business opportunity for the operation of the hostel at upper Fort Mason was open for proposals from Nov. 21, 2019 to March 5, 2020.

Under the regulations of the 1998 Concessions Management Act, the National Park Service (NPS) may cancel a solicitation if such action is decided to be in the public interest by the Director. Due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on travel and reduced demand for hostel style overnight accommodations, the National Park Service has decided it must cancel this business opportunity. Any solicitation for proposals for a new business opportunity will be announced at a future date. The National Park Service expects to offer the current operator an extension of its concession contract to avoid an interruption in services.

Any questions regarding this decision must be sent in writing via email to Sue Eibeck, Commercial Services Specialist, at e-mail us.
