Effective Jan. 21, 2021 Colonial National Historical Park will modify its entrance fees to provide additional funding for infrastructure and maintenance needs to enhance the visitor experience and align with the standardized National Park Service (NPS) entrance fee structure used by other parks in their category, based on park size and type.
Entrance fees to the park will increase from $10 to $15 per person, ages 16 and over. Ages 15 and under will remain free. The entrance fee is valid for 7 days and provides access to the following resources managed by Colonial National Historical Park: Yorktown Visitor Center and Battlefield Tour Roads, Jamestown Visitor Center, Glasshouse and the Jamestown Island Drive Tour Road.
An annual Colonial National Historical Park pass will increase from $40 to $45 but remains an incredible value for local residents who visit the park several times each year. The annual park pass provides unlimited admittance for a passholder and up to 3 accompanying guests to all resources managed by Colonial National Historical Park for one year. The price of the annual America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Annual Pass and Lifetime Senior Pass will remain $80.
All of the money received from entrance fees remains with the National Park Service. Eighty percent of the entrance fee revenue at Colonial National Historical Park supports projects in the park. The other 20 percent of entrance fee revenue supports projects at other national parks where fees are not collected. National parks have experienced record-breaking visitation, with more than 1.5 billion visitors in the last five years. Throughout the country, the combination of an aging infrastructure and increased visitation has put a strain on park roads, bridges, campgrounds, waterlines, bathrooms and other visitor services and led to a $11.6 billion deferred maintenance backlog nationwide. The additional revenue from entrance fees at Colonial National Historical Park have funded projects such as the current York River Shoreline Protection and Enhancement Project.
