Denali Park, AK - Effectively immediately, the use of open wood fires is prohibited in the park. The National Weather Service has issued fire weather and red flag warnings for continued hot, dry, and windy weather conditions throughout the Denali area. These weather conditions contribute to extreme fire conditions that could promote large fire growth very quickly. The term "open fires" refers to any flame source not immediately extinguishable or controllable and applies to any form of wood fire, even in established fire rings.
While there are no fires in Denali National Park and Preserve, there are 157 fires burning in the state of Alaska. Wildland fire managers ask visitors and residents to stay informed of fire danger and changing conditions, and to please recreate responsibly this 4th of July holiday.
Decisions to lift or continue the ban will be reassessed daily by park staff and based on fuels, forecasted weather conditions, and firefighting resource availability statewide.
