Las Vegas, Nevada - The National Park Service (NPS) announces that Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument will host a public meeting on Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. PST to gather public input and help shape development of the monument’s General Management Plan (GMP). A newsletter describing the general management planning process and schedule is available on the park’s planning website at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/TUSKgmp.

The public is encouraged to provide input during a public comment period from July 20 to Aug. 19, 2022. These comments will help guide NPS planners in developing alternative approaches to managing the park’s resources, visitors and facilities. The NPS seeks the public’s feedback on desired natural and cultural resource conditions, visitor experiences and other important values related to the monument for plan development.

The GMP will evaluate a range of options to address comprehensive management issues and capitalize on opportunities, while considering how the actions/strategies in one location may be connected to actions/strategies in other locations. The plan will develop a collaborative vision for protecting natural and cultural resources, partnering for their preservation, management options, obligations and the need to clarify the park and its partners’ roles towards management of the monument.

The planning process will examine current and potential visitor opportunities and develop long-term strategies for providing access, connecting visitors to key experiences and managing use. The plan will incorporate best practices for managing visitor use to protect resources and promote quality visitor experiences, while meeting legal requirements. Preliminary alternatives will be developed during the Winter of 2022-2023. The alternatives will also be based on legal mandates, NPS policies, the park’s purpose, significance and mission and key issues facing the park.

All national park units are required to have an approved general management plan. The NPS will work with its partners, the public and its stakeholders to develop the plan and to comply with legal and policy requirements.

The public is invited to attend a public meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the following location:

Thursday, August 4, 2022, 6pm - 8pm PT

11357 North Decatur Blvd.
