Strong City, Kansas -Come see the 17th annual quilt display at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve over the Labor Day weekend, September 3rd, 4th, and 5th. This year’s display will feature quilts made in the 9-patch and 4-patch design. The quilts will be displayed in the historic barn from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. all three days. On Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the historic barn, historian Deb Divine will present her research concerning early 20th century local women from Emporia, Kansas and their role in quilting.
Once again, the fun activity of voting for your favorite quilt has returned to the show. On Monday, September 5th at 1 p.m., the winner will be announced.
If you have a quilt you would like to display, please call the preserve at 620-273-8494 (hit 270) and drop the quilt(s) at the Visitor Center’s Administrative Office by August 29th, allowing time for the staff to process each quilt. The preserve headquarters is under some construction, so please call ahead and we can direct you to the proper drop off location for the day.
Enjoy the Labor Day weekend and make a day of it by creating some family memories. Take a hike to see the bison, visit the newly rehabilitated 1881 limestone mansion, bring a picnic lunch, and see the fabric masterpieces created using a very basic, yet beautiful design. Come to the park and make it your own.
