AS DELIVERED
Thank you. We thank the Working Group for its continued efforts to document and report widespread discrimination against women and girls in all their diversity and the effects of these discriminatory practices on all. We are disheartened in the knowledge that gender equality has not been achieved by any country in the world.
President Biden and Vice President Harris believe that advancing gender equity and equality is fundamental to every individual’s economic security, safety, health, and ability to exercise their rights. They continue to combat unlawful discrimination and eliminate disparities that harm LGBTQI+ individuals and their families.
The Biden Administration announced plans to advance women’s economic security, gender-based violence prevention and response, and sexual and reproductive health and rights. The President’s request includes more than double the foreign assistance funds attributed to gender equality and women’s empowerment, including gender-based violence, in Fiscal Year 2023 as compared to the Fiscal Year 2022 Request to promote prosperity, stability, and security around the world, including through the promotion and advancement of rights of LGBTQI+ persons.
Creating opportunity for and guaranteeing the participation of all persons in society helps create balance to the benefit of all. When all are included, we can create lasting global peace, and security and prosperity can become commonplace.
How can member states further the efforts of the Working Group to end discrimination against women and girls?
