Pallone Applauds Biden’s Executive Order Pardoning Federal Marijuana Offenses

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Oct. 6. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today on President Biden’s announcement that he would issue an executive order pardoning all people convicted of simple marijuana possession under federal law:

“I strongly support President Biden’s executive order pardoning all people convicted of simple marijuana possession under federal law and join his call to governors to consider taking similar action for state offenses.

“I also support the President’s request to Secretary Becerra and Attorney General Garland to expeditiously review marijuana’s scheduling under federal law.

“Today’s actions are a welcome step forward as we reconsider our nation’s drug policy and how best to expand research as well as access to care and treatment to those struggling with substance use."
