Remarks at a Third Committee Interactive Dialogue with the UN Chair of the Human Rights Committee

Thank you, Madame Chair. The United States remains committed to the protection and promotion of human rights and to the important work of the Human Rights Committee to promote the civil and political rights of all people.

We applaud the Committee for the seriousness with which it has engaged on treaty body reform. We appreciate your commitment to implementing reforms aimed at harmonizing and streamlining the system, and we welcome simplified reporting procedures. Creating electronic submissions portals, digitized forms, and status trackers should help to ease the backlog the Committee is experiencing. We are interested in hearing if there have been any updates on efforts to implement these reforms.

We hope that the Committee will continue to keep in touch with civil society, as the information they can provide is invaluable.

What are some additional measures that could be taken to assist with the backlog of communications?

Thank you.
