Department of Energy Issues FY 2012 Request for Pre-Applications from U.S. Universities for Nuclear Energy Research and Development Proposals

The following press release was published by the U.S. Dept. of Energy, Office of Nuclear Energy on Sept. 28, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

The U.S. Department of Energy today announced that its Nuclear Energy University Program (NEUP) is now accepting pre-applications from universities interested in conducting nuclear energy research and development (R&D) projects to be funded in fiscal year (FY) 2012.

Through NEUP, the Department is working to leverage the research and development capabilities of American universities and colleges to enhance U.S. leadership in the global nuclear energy industry and to ensure that nuclear power is a part of our clean energy mix.

NEUP components covered by this Request for Pre-Applications (RPA) are: Program Supporting and Mission Supporting R&D in the areas of Fuel Cycle Research and Development, Reactor Concepts Research, Development and Demonstration, as well as Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling and Simulation. This request includes a set of mandatory requirements and evaluation criteria that will be used to select a set of applicants who will be invited to provide full proposals in response to a subsequent Call for Proposals. R&D pre-applications are due Oct. 27, 2011.

DOE anticipates notifying RPA applicants of the review results in December 2011.
