January 14: 2014 Hydrogen Student Design Contest
Webinar Sponsor: EERE’s Fuel Cell Technologies Office
The Energy Department presented a live webinar titled “2014 Hydrogen Student Design Contest" on Tuesday, January 14. This webinar presents the winning entries of the 2013 Hydrogen Student Design Contest from the University of Kyushu and University of Birmingham. For the 2013 competition, teams were challenged to develop hydrogen fueling infrastructure plans for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions for the 2013-2025 timeframe. The first place winner, University of Kyushu's design, focused on developing fueling clusters in urban areas, which could then be expanded into suburban areas and along highways to facilitate cross-state travel. The University of Birmingham placed second with its proposed "hydrogen highway" system that connects Boston to Washington, D.C., before connecting most areas in the northeastern United States. The theme for the 2014 contest-designing a drop-in fueling station-is also discussed.

January 7: SunShot Virtual Showcase
Webinar Sponsor: EERE’s SunShot Initiative
The Energy Department presented a live webinar titled "SunShot Incubator Virtual Showcase" on Tuesday, January 7. The SunShot Incubator program provides early-stage assistance to help startup companies cross technological barriers to commercialization while encouraging private sector investment. Since 2007, $104 million in government funds has leveraged more than $1.8 billion in venture capital and private equity investment, demonstrating a ratio of nearly $18 in subsequent private sector support for every $1 of federal support. This webinar provides an opportunity to learn about the SunShot Incubator projects in quick 1-minute presentations by each company. In addition to learning about the projects, greater insight into the Incubator Awardees' products and future development needs is also covered.
