This webinar presents the latest of DOE's Advanced Energy Design Guides and is targeted to the grocery store sector. The guide shows practical ways for grocery stores to achieve 50% energy savings, and highlighting the guide, speakers will provide attendees with practical how-to tips to achieve the 50% savings level. The guide will also help developers design and build other retail stores-including food service and convenience stores-with specialty sections for refrigeration and food service.

June 23: Live Webinar on Buildings of the Future

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled "Codes and Regulations for Buildings of the Future" on Tuesday, June 23, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. This webinar is the first in a series of panel discussions on the future of the built environment, and attendees are encouraged to join panelists in discussing the future of energy codes and regulatory reforms. Guest speakers Steven Nadel (Executive Director, American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy), Duane Jonlin (Energy Code and Energy Conservation Advisor, City of Seattle, Department of Planning & Development), and Michael Rosenberg (Senior Scientist, PNNL) will discuss what energy codes might be like in the distant future and how codes may drive future building safety, efficiency, and sustainability. They will also share their views on zero-net-energy buildings, future retrofits codes, restructuring codes in order to provide more flexibility, and policy platforms that address fresh-air rights, solar rights, and connected neighborhoods.

April 7: Zero Energy Buildings: What Are They And How Do We Build Them?

The Energy Department presented a webinar titled "Zero Energy Buildings: What are they and how do we build them?" on Tuesday, April 7. Learn how zero energy buildings combine energy efficiency and renewable energy generation to consume only as much energy as can be produced onsite through renewable resources. Better Buildings Challenge partner Walgreens shares its experiences designing, constructing and operating its zero energy store in Evanston, Illinois. Rocky Mountain Institute describes its collaboration with Better Buildings Alliance member McDonalds and other partners in determining the feasibility of zero energy quick-serve restaurants. The National Institute for Building Sciences (NIBS) provides an update on recent efforts to develop an industry definition for zero energy buildings.
