RICHLAND, Wash. - Workers with Hanford Site contractor CH2M HILL Plateau Remediation Company recently finished retrieving a total of 2,201 drums of waste from trenches in the 618-10 Burial Ground. Buried about 20 feet in the trenches, the drums contained radioactive waste from laboratories in Hanford’s fuel fabrication and research area from 1954 through 1963. Crews will continue remediating the last 14 of 94 waste-filled pipes buried vertically in the burial ground.
