On June 7, 2018, Bruce J. Walker, Assistant Secretary for the Office of Electricity (OE) and Acting Assistant Secretary for the Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER), testified before the U.S. House Science, Space, and Technology Energy Subcommittee during a hearing on “The Electric Grid of the Future."
Mr. Walker highlighted the Department’s commitment to a resilient and reliable power grid and its collaboration with industry, academia, state and local governments, and other energy sector stakeholders on numerous research and development (R&D) programs. Mr. Walker also discussed the standup of the Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER), the Office of Electricity’s priorities, electricity-related R&D efforts, and cybersecurity R&D activities.
“The energy sector continues to face challenges and threats every day, both old and new alike," said Mr. Walker. “The Department continues to pursue varied, yet targeted, R&D projects to further enhance the resilience and reliability of our Nation’s grid and energy infrastructure necessary to ensure national security. The cutting-edge technologies developed at our National Labs, and the ongoing research and development conducted in collaboration with our public and private sector partners, will continue to strengthen the resilience and reliability of the grid for years to come."
