RICHLAND, Wash. - A Hanford cleanup contractor employee was recently named the Junior Achievement (JA) of Washington Southeastern Region’s 2017-18 Volunteer of the Year.
Nathan Morgan, a Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) employee at the Hanford Site, received the award, one of the highest honors given annually by the regional organization to a local volunteer. WRPS is the tank farms contractor for EM’s Office of River Protection.
Morgan, a WRPS employee of 10 years, began volunteering for JA 15 years ago when he joined a team for an annual bowling fundraiser. That experience piqued his interest in the organization, and he became a classroom volunteer. Since then, he has served as a board member, chaired the organization’s strategic planning efforts, and led a major regional business competition for high school students.
“Nathan is a visionary leader, and we are fortunate to have him in our JA family. He’s an inspiration to the students he works with and to everyone around him," said Susan Fillafer, the JA regional director.
JA is the world's largest non-profit economic education organization, reaching more than four million students in the U.S. each year.
