DOE Awards Renewal of Grant Agreement to the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED)

Cincinnati -- The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Environmental Management Consolidated Business Center (EMCBC) today issued a grant renewal to the New Mexico Environment Department. The Agreement, entitled “Environmental oversight and monitoring at the DOE Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and Sandia National Laboratories/New Mexico (SNL/NM)" was renewed for a five-year project period, with annual budget periods beginning Oct. 1, 2018.

This grant agreement is intended to 1) provide a mechanism through which the NMED can provide independent, third-party, environmental monitoring and oversight of various DOE activities for LANL and SNL site-related work; 2) provide the public of the State of New Mexico with accurate, reliable information pertaining to oversight and monitoring activities covered under this grant; 3) assure the citizens of New Mexico that the public health, safety and environment are being protected through existing programs both at LANL and SNL; and 4) facilitate a better understanding for local, tribal governments and the general public of the State of New Mexico’s perspective on environmental impacts and health risks, if any, associated with past and current operations at LANL and SNL.
