RICHLAND, Wash. - The final six of 43 specially-fabricated Immobilized Low-Activity Waste (ILAW) pallets arrived on the Hanford Site earlier this month. After planning, design, fabrication, and testing by EM Office of River Protection (ORP) tank operations contractor Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS), the ILAW Transporter System is now complete and ready for Direct-Feed Low-Activity Waste operations. Containers of low-activity waste immobilized in glass will be loaded into the pallets and placed on trailers designed to lock the pallets securely in place as they are transported from the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant to Hanford’s Integrated Disposal Facility for disposal. The ILAW Transporter System includes four truck-trailer transporters that can carry three pallets each. The system is designed to support 24/7 waste processing operations
