U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced the arrest of a number of migrants Oct. 15-17.
The arrests were announced in an Oct. 17 news release, sharing details of three different incidents.
"Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents arrested 26 migrants from a northbound train, a tractor trailer and a vehicle bailout over the weekend," the release reported.
Kingsville Border Patrol Station agents found migrants who were nationals of Central and South America “hiding under a tarp on top of scrap steel inside an open top gondola train car near the Javier Vega Jr. Checkpoint” Oct. 15, the release reported.
Harlingen Border Patrol Station agents assisted “the San Benito Police Department with six subjects they encountered after conducting a vehicle stop on a tractor trailer” Oct. 16, according to the release. The migrants were apprehended for “being illegally present in the U.S.”
The driver, a U.S. citizen, was retained and faces state human smuggling charges, the release reported.
On Oct.17, a Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station camera operator’s observance of several people loading into a vehicle and driving north from the Rio Grande near Garceno resulted in agents apprehending seven people “illegally present in the U.S.” The agents also seized a loaded handgun, according to the release.
