The most recent press release, "Statement from Secretary Mayorkas on Efficiently and Fairly Processing Asylum Claims," was submitted on May 26.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security published 15 releases the month before, marking a 33.3 percent decrease for the current month.
The Department was built out of more than 20 agencies in 2002. Downsizing the Federal Government, a project aimed at lower taxes and boosting federal efficiency, argued the Department is burdened with "unneeded bureaucracy" which could be handled by other departments or standalone operations.
At the national level, DHS’s attention and political emphasis is accused of being out of balance with many of today’s most serious threats.
