Public input sought for Tennessee Valley dam removal project in Golden Gate NRA

Golden Gate National Recreation Area invites the public to provide feedback on the removal of an earthen dam at Tennessee Valley. This follows the start of the environmental assessment (EA) in August to evaluate the potential impacts from the proposed project.

The dam and impounded 2-acre pond are more than 60 years old and were not engineered to last. The goal of the proposed project is to increase visitor safety and access to the lower section of the Tennessee Valley Trail, which is closed in winter when the water level in the pond is highest and at risk of flooding.

The 30-day public comment period begins Tuesday, October 18, 2022 and closes Thursday, November 17, 2022. The park will be utilizing the National Park Service’s Planning, Environment and Public Comment website to share project information and request your feedback.

Comments should be submitted online: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/GOGATVDamRemoval

The NPS is committed to encouraging public participation and providing opportunities for communication between the park and the affected community, interested stakeholders, and community residents during the process. Before including your address, telephone number, electronic mail address, or other personally identifiable information in your comments, you should be aware that your entire comment (including your personally identifiable information) may be made publicly available at any time.
