Kenner, LA - On the morning of Oct. 11, 2019, with critical support from the Kenner Police Department (KPD), New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) Sex Offender Registration Unit and NOPD 5th District, LA Probation and Parole, and Crimestoppers GNO, the U.S. Marshals (USMS) New Orleans Task Force located and arrested NOPD fugitive sex offender, Kendrick Dimitri Perkins (DOB: 02/18/2000) and his brother, Christopher Perkins, at a residence on Compromise and 9th Street Kenner, LA after they briefly refused to come out of the residence. Kendrick Perkins attempted to hide in an attic before surrendering. A firearm stolen out of Mississippi was recovered during the arrest and this makes four handguns total recovered, with three of the firearms being stolen, during the fugitive investigation and month long hunt for Kendrick Perkins.
Kendrick Dimitri Perkins was wanted by the New Orleans Police Department Sex Offender Registration Unit on a Sept. 11, 2019, felony Failure to Register as a Sex Offender warrant. Perkins had been convicted in Orleans Parish in 2018 of Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile in a case that involved the rape of a 12 year old girl by Perkins. Perkins was also wanted by the New Orleans Police Department on a Sept. 10, 2019, warrant charging him with Armed Robbery and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The armed robbery was alleged to have occurred in the New Orleans Police Department’s 5th District. Perkins is also on active LA Probation for the sex based conviction and had an active LA Probation warrant issued for his arrest on Aug. 21, 2019.
Kendrick Perkins’ brother, Christopher Perkins (21 years old) was also wanted by the New Orleans Police Department on felony warrants from July and September 2019 for Armed Robbery.
Both suspects were aware that they were wanted and Christopher Perkins was able to flee from New Orleans Police Department Patrol Units on Oct. 08, 2019, in the 5100 block of Bundy Road as he and his other brother, Kenneth McMillan had been stopped by New Orleans Police for suspicious activity in an apartment complex. Kenneth McMillan was found to have a stolen firearm on his person during that encounter and Christopher was able to flee from the scene.
U.S. Marshal Scott Illing stated, these arrests illustrate the work done daily by the women and men of law enforcement across the New Orleans metro area to make the public safe. These two violent offenders have continued to plague the metro area for months while knowing that they were wanted. The countless hours and team work between law enforcement agencies directly led to this arrest and I would like to thank all agencies involved as well as Crimestoppers GNO.
U.S. Marshals New Orleans Task Force is currently still committed to looking for an unrelated fugitive sex offender, Jeremiah Shawn Prater (African American male, 31 years of age, 5’09" 160-175 lbs.) is still wanted on three Orleans Parish felony warrants related to his sex offender registration and LA Probation. He still has ties to the New Orleans metro area as well as the state of Georgia.
Prater was convicted in Caddo Parish, LA in February of 2017 of Indecent Behavior with Juveniles and law enforcement records indicate that the female victim was 16 years of age with Prater being 27 years of age at the time of the offense. Prater also has a history of domestic battery as well as battery on police and resisting arrest. Prater is listed by law enforcement with “violent tendencies" and should be considered dangerous.
