Today, Rep. Gerry Connolly, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations, sent a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy seeking information on the poor delivery service in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park (RTP). The letter follows an initial request made by Rep. David Price and Rep. Deborah Ross in August 2022. After decades of growth, RTP has become the largest research park in the United States, with 60,000 employees from 300 companies spread across 7,000 acres of land. Yet, despite its vast size and economic impact, RTP relies on a single U.S. Post Office that does not offer even basic services like delivery to the RTP area.
“As the pandemic made abundantly clear, the U.S. Postal Service is a vital resource for American businesses of every size and industry,” said Chairman Connolly. “That’s true for my district in Northern Virginia and it’s true for Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. Without full access to USPS services, including delivery, RTP is forced to operate with one hand tied behind its back. I’m proud to join my friends David Price and Deborah Ross, two fierce champions of North Carolina’s businesses and workers, as they continue their push for answers on the stark lack of postal infrastructure available to this critical piece of their state’s economy.”

In his letter, Chairman Connolly requested information about how the Postal Service plans to address the personnel shortages and lack of delivery services at RTP and whether it has explored locating additional post office buildings or resources throughout the region to ensure better service.
