The Bureau of Land Management Monticello Field Office and U.S. Department of Agriculture Manti-La Sal National Forest will host a public meeting of the Bears Ears National Monument Advisory Committee on Dec. 7, 2022, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with public comments accepted at 1:30 p.m. This meeting will be held in-person at the Hideout (648 South Hideout Way, Monticello, UT 84535). A virtual participation option is also available.
During the meeting, the committee will discuss and provide input on the management of the Bears Ears National Monument including discussing and receiving input on the alternative development process and the draft environmental impact statement. The Bears Ears National Monument Advisory Committee is a citizen-based committee consisting of up to 15 members representing interests in the local community and monument values.
The Bears Ears National Monument is co-managed by the BLM and the Forest Service, with traditional and historical guidance of Tribal Nations through the Bears Ears Commission.
“Conversations with the Monument Advisory Committee and other stakeholders have been an essential part of the planning process,” said BLM Canyon Country District Manager Nicollee Gaddis-Wyatt. “The Federal agencies look forward to continued collaboration with the Monument Advisory Committee, Tribal Nations, the Bears Ears Commission and other interested individuals and entities to help inform the management efforts taking place at Bears Ears National Monument.”
The agenda and virtual meeting access information (including how to log in and participate) will be announced on the Bears Ears National Monument Advisory Committee webpage at https://go.usa.gov/xu3Uf 30 days in advance of the meeting. Depending on the number of people wishing to participate in public comment, the amount of time for individual comments may be limited.
